UQ Art Museum’s Advancement Manager Wendy Mansell joined the team just before the COVID-19 pandemic began to unfold in Australia. Now that we’ve reopened and life has returned to a new normal, we wanted to share a bit more about Wendy and the incredible wealth of experiences she brings to her work at UQ Art Museum, and the very special community of people who support us.

Rachaell Crawford-Corser is currently researching cultural mediation for her Master’s dissertation at UQ, so her appointment as our new Kinnane Endowment Fund Visitor Engagement intern is a heavenly match. We caught up with Rachaell to find out a little more about cultural mediation, her new role, and what she’s experienced so far.

Under the mentorship of UQ Art Museum staff, fourth-year UQ student Elena Dias-Jayasinha has curated the new exhibition Music of Spheres, featuring artists who evoke a constellation of ideas relating to cosmic mysticism, spirituality, imagined worlds, parallel universes and hidden forces.

One of our important jobs at the Art Museum is to help shape the next generation of arts professionals by providing practical experiences. Of course, this becomes a little more difficult to do when the museum doors are closed and the majority of staff are working remotely due to a pandemic!

Every Friday during May and June, we’re sharing on Instagram new Matthew Griffin digital collages, commissioned by UQ Art Museum in response to COVID-19. The artwork is part of Conflict in My Outlook: We Met Online, a major exhibition of Australian and international artists presented on a dedicated web-platform launching in August 2020.

During this period of physical closure, our team has mostly been working remotely. We’re looking forward to being together again and seeing you back at the Art Museum soon! In 2016, Sam Cranstoun visited Greece to further a research project about the internationally renowned town planner, architect and engineer Constantinos Apostolou Doxiadis (1913 – 1975). His research would ultimately inform a body of work Cranstoun is currently showing with UQ Art Museum, To Speak of Cities.

I’m Elena Dias-Jayasinha, a fourth-year UQ student completing a Bachelor of Advanced Humanities (Honours) majoring in Art History, and a concurrent Diploma in Languages majoring in Japanese. I’m also the student curator of the new exhibition at UQ Art Museum, "Music of Spheres".
