Career Pathways Program

Our philanthropically-funded Career Pathways program supports UQ students to develop practical, hands-on skills in all areas of museum operations.

As a university art museum, we are uniquely empowered to work closely with UQ students to teach them practical skills building on the knowledge they develop through their studies. From how to handle an artwork to how to write about an exhibition or manage a project budget, students get on-the-job experience so that when they graduate they are ready to enter the sector and begin their careers.

Their knowledge and experience makes them desirable candidates in a competitive industry, and our interns have gone on to secure positions with institutions around the country, including QAGOMA, Museum of Brisbane, National Gallery of Victoria, National Gallery of Australia and in private galleries and consultancies.

The Art Gallery of New South Wales and the University of Queensland Art Museum (UQ Art Museum) are thrilled to announce Oceans Pathway 2024–25, a significant partnership that aims to support longform professional development of outstanding contemporary global First Nations arts education and curator
