Desert Country
4 August – 21 October 2012
An Art Gallery of South Australia touring exhibition
Drawn from the Art Gallery of South Australia’s extensive holdings of Aboriginal art, Desert Country presents an historical survey of the internationally acclaimed desert painting movement, with works from the Northern Territory, South Australia and Western Australia. Beginning in 1971 with rare examples of the first experimental paintings by its pioneering masters, Desert Country culminates with powerful paintings from Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Lands of far northwest South Australia.
