We warmly encourage school groups to visit our internationally significant, research-driven exhibitions.

Plan your visit

The Art Museum has free entry and there are no booking charges.

If you are bringing a school group, please notify us in advance and read the guidelines to help make the most of your visit.

Resources are available for you to use to support your visit to the Art Museum. We don’t currently offer dedicated programs or resources for primary or secondary school students.

We use cultural mediation as our visitor engagement practice. This approach favours conversation and exchange. It’s not a guided tour but means that staff members in the gallery spaces are available for students who want to discuss the artworks.

Bookings

Bookings are free.

To book your school group for a visit to UQ Art Museum please contact our team via phone: (07) 3365 3046 or email us with proposed date, time and number of students expected to visit. We’ll get back to you to confirm availability.

School group visits are available during opening hours (Tuesday–Friday, 10am–4pm). Please note: we are closed on Mondays.

During your visit

When you arrive, you will be greeted by our friendly Mediators who will share helpful information about your visit and cloak your bags.

Your students are welcome to use a pencil and notebook in the Art Museum, but please note that pens are not permitted.

Our approach to learning is different at UQ Art Museum. Instead of traditional guided tours, we practice cultural mediation, which focuses on encouraging discovery and reflection through informal conversation and exchange.

Mediators can ask questions that prompt critical thinking, answer students’ questions, and discuss artworks with students who are keen to explore ideas and perspectives further.

Teachers are welcome to use our Foyer space or galleries to lead discussions with their class.

Visiting guidelines

We have put together guidelines to help students have a smooth and meaningful experience. Please download and brief students on our Visiting Guidelines (PDF, 101 KB) before your visit.

For some of your students, this may be their first visit to an art museum. These guidelines will help ensure they have a rewarding experience.
