Regional galleries play an important role in Australia’s cultural economy, and for many Art History and Museum Studies students, it’s where they’ll secure their very first jobs.

What if we could build the capacity of professional museum staff across regional Queensland galleries while also building pathways for UQ students into these institutions?

UQ Art Museum is creating a professional development program that will open students’ eyes to exciting possibilities in the regions. Through short-term placements in regional galleries, students will develop professional networks while building a portfolio of skills as they complete projects for their host institutions.

As a hub for teaching and learning, UQ Art Museum will also facilitate other professional development for regional gallery employees – from short-term, Brisbane-based professional development to accredited online courses.

These initiatives aim to build the skill set of UQ students and professional staff in the regions, contribute to sustainable cultural activity and help retain arts workers in regional Queensland.

With your help, we can create opportunities across Queensland’s regional gallery network for museum professionals of the future. Talk to us today about how your contribution can change students’ lives and the communities who benefit from the arts.
