The UQ Art Collection is an extraordinary teaching resource comprised of around 4,000 original artworks by predominantly Australian artists, spanning colonial era to the present day, along with The Nat Yuen Collection of Chinese Antiquities. Over 60% of our nationally significant Collection has been acquired through philanthropy – either as artworks gifted to the University or purchased with donated funds.
Museum staff consult with academics from all disciplines to explore how the Art Collection might complement their course objectives, and students are invited to engage with exhibitions and artworks in ways that enrich and inspire their studies. Supporting the development and growth of the collection allows the UQ Art Museum to bring together academics, students and the broader community for exhibitions, symposia, workshops, lectures, and seminars that deepen and advance university-wide conservations.
Each year generous donors gift works of art and support the purchase of artworks, expanding the UQ Art Museum’s collection – its primary resource for transformative teaching and higher quality learning.
