Artists in-conversation
Join Conflict in My Outlook_We Met Online artists Kate Geck, Xanthe Dobbie and Daniel McKewen as they unpack their artistic practices in relation to internet culture and networked technologies, discussing what it means to pivot mid-project due to the global pandemic. The conversation will be moderated by Curator Anna Briers.
Kate Geck is a media artist who works across installation, textiles, augmented reality and code. Invoking the language of the Internet, her glitch and emoji-laden aesthetic is employed to critique our hyper-mediated age, creating immersive experiences and sites of respite and resistance. Recent work engages with notions of speculative critical design, thinking through alternative agendas and possibilities for networked technologies.
Xanthe Dobbie is a media artist and filmmaker, whose recent projects have included live-streamed, interactive theatre. Their works dredge content from the vast databank of the Internet, re-configuring it through the lens of queer world-making and feminist critique.
Daniel McKewen explores the intersections between popular culture, economics, politics and social media platforms. Often employing film, digital video and found objects, he examines institutional power structures embedded within these forms, while acknowledging his own complicity as witness or consumer.
