In European theatre between 1500 and 1800, the figure of the witch became a performative expression of anxieties about science and the supernatural. Roaming the edges of the stage, magical figures like the witch enacted a scepticism and ambivalence towards the rapidly approaching triumph of reason across this period. Responding to artworks from 'Second Sight: Witchcraft: Ritual, Power', UQ Drama students will present original, site-specific works that bring together witches, fairies, devils, magicians and outlaws from the historical tradition of European theatre.
