Not of this Earth: The Smithson exhibition zine, second-hand, artist and comic book fair

The Context

  • The major exhibition 'Robert Smithson: Time Crystals' will be held at UQ Art Museum, opening Saturday 10 March and closing Sunday 8 July, 2018.
     
  • Best-known for his radical earthworks and land art projects in the 1960s and early ’70s, Robert Smithson is now widely recognised as one of the most influential artists of the twentieth century. ‘Time is deranged,’ he wrote in 1966. ‘Oceans become puddles, monumental pillars of magma rise from the dark depths of a cracking world … A landslide of diamonds plunges into a polar crevasse of boundless dimension. History no longer exists.’

The Guidelines

  • The Not of this Earth fair will take place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 May 2018 at the UQ Art Museum. The doors will be open to the public between 10 am and 4 pm each day.
  • Applications close 5pm Wednesday 28 March 2018.
  • Preference will be given to zines, comic and artist’s books related to themes explored in the science fiction genre.
  • Time travel, space, artificial intelligence, life from outer space, science, the future, Armageddon, alternate histories, fantasy fiction.
  • This is an all ages event. If it’s too sexy for a billboard, leave it out. No pornography or R-rated material. If you are not sure please ask us first.
  • Take your hate speech or extreme depictions of violence elsewhere. If you are not sure please ask us first.

The information

  • You will be provided with a full or half table (1.8 x .8 m), a black table cloth and chairs.
  • You are encouraged to bring display items – such as clear plastic stands.
  • There is no backing wall from which to hang posters or banners.
  • There is limited power available at the tables.
  • Bring a float with plenty of cash/ EFTPOS machine.
  • We do not have any cash on hand to help you out.
  • You will be linked from our website and social media as part of the promotion of the event.
  • Exhibitor check in times for Saturday and Sunday are 9 to 9.45 am.
  • Our doors are open from 10 – 4 pm both days.
  • There is a refrigerator located in the kitchen area which is available for exhibitors.
  • There will be food trucks on site.
  • Exhibitor parking needs to be requested with your application. Parking is free on the weekends but it fills up quickly.
  • Access parking before 9.45 am as this will be when it is opened up to the general public.
  • One car space per creator.
  • You can exhibit/ sell other types of relevant merchandise.
  • Only successful applications will be contacted.
